Emotions & Holy Week - Brandy Knutson

This coming Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week. The week leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection. Stay with me for a moment as I try to explain where I’m going next.

Lately, the concept of emotions has been on my mind, and how polarizing they can be. That we can hold both grief and joy at the same time, with immense difficulty and tension. The wide spectrum of emotions that we can feel, and yet in our hurt or disappointment, it’s anger that shows or seems more identifiable…

All of this has led me to wonder what emotions Jesus may have felt during his final week. In his humanity, he understands and empathizes with every emotion that we experience. And yet, in his divinity, he doesn’t misuse any emotion. I struggle to grasp what this would have been like for him, and I know that I have much to learn when it comes to feeling, identifying emotions, and reacting well to them.

In this coming week, I would like to encourage you to read with me through Jesus’ life during his final days. Below you’ll find a simple Bible reading plan that you could follow - or maybe you already have your own that you prefer. My prayer for you in this coming week is that God will show you something new about himself, about his mercy, about his love. Something that brings you hope and joy - no matter what other emotions or circumstances you may be experiencing.

On Friday, March 29, at 6:30 PM, Hope City is hosting a Good Friday service. You are invited to join us as we consider the darkest day in history. I also want to encourage you to take a step of faith and invite someone to join you for one of our Easter services next week - March 31, at 8:30 AM, 10 AM, or 11:30 AM, as we celebrate with hopeful expectation the resurrection of Jesus and the work that he is still doing today.

Reading Plan:
Sun, March 24 - Matthew 21
Mon, March 25 - Matthew 22
Tues, March 26 - Matthew 23
Wed, March 27 - Matthew 24
Thur, March 28 - Matthew 25
Fri, March 29 - Matthew 26
