A Legacy of Faith and Service

Hcc4 Hope City Church was born from a simple but powerful belief: God wasn’t done with this city yet. In 2010, Brian and Jen Becker and 19 passionate individuals gathered in a living room to start something new. Their mission? To glorify Jesus and bring hope to a city that desperately needed it.

In February 2011, Hope City held its first Sunday service at Lane Middle School. The church grew quickly, fueled by a commitment to meeting people where they were— In just two years, over 200 people were baptized.  Hope City met in school gyms for eight years, setting up and tearing down each week, all while serving the community with transforming love.

A Legacy Church with Deep Roots: Milwaukie Christian Church

Hcc2 Of course, Hope City was not the first to share Jesus’ love in Milwaukie. In 1940, Mary Harding founded a Bible school with just two boys in what is now a gas station. By 1943, it transformed into Milwaukie Christian Church, a community of believers dedicated to nurturing a lasting faith legacy.

From 1974 to 2018, under Pastor Russ Isom’s guidance, Milwaukie Christian Church created a welcoming space for worship and service, and was a part of seeing countless lives changed.

Better Together: A Bold Step of Faith

In 2013, Willamette Christian Church in West Linn partnered with Hope City, providing leadership and financial support to fuel Hope City’s mission. In 2018, Hope City became part of the Willamette family, which also includes Beaverton Christian Church, New Hope, Willamette Christian, and All City Church. Together, these churches serve with the same mission, vision, values, governance, and DNA.

And in 2019, Milwuakie Christian joined together to become part of Hope City— providing a permanent home and a rich heritage to fuel an exciting future.

Looking to the Future

IMG 0320 At Hope City, we believe everyone has a place—whether you're exploring faith for the first time or have been following Jesus for years. Under the leadership of Pastor Daniel Knutson, we are growing a diverse community where people at all stages of faith are valued. We know that everyone’s journey looks different, and that’s what makes our church a beautiful place to belong. Hope City is a safe and welcoming space where you can come as you are, ask questions, find hope, and take the next step in your faith—no matter where you’re starting from.

We imagine a community so committed to sacrificial love and service that it becomes undeniable evidence of God’s Kingdom on earth throughout our community.

Hope City stands on the shoulders of those who came before us, and now, it’s our turn to keep growing. Imagine what God will do as we continue to step out in faith, serve our neighbors, and make His love known. Today's steps of great faith will be the stories of great faith told tomorrow.

God is faithful, and we are Better Together.
