Luke: The Lame Walk - Brian Becker

Luke 5:17 (ESV)
On one of those days, as he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with him to heal.

Mark 2:2 (ESV)
And many were gathered together, so there was no more room, not even at the door.

Luke 5:18-19a (NLT)
Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a sleeping mat. They tried to take him inside to Jesus, but they couldn’t reach him because of the crowd.

Luke 5:19b (NLT)
So they went up to the roof and took off some tiles. Then they lowered the sick man on his mat down into the crowd, right in front of Jesus.

Mark 2:4 (NLT)
They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus.

Luke 5:20 (NLT)
Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the man, “Young man, your sins are forgiven.”

Luke 5:21 (NLT)
But the Pharisees and teachers of religious law said to themselves, “Who does he think he is? That’s blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!

Luke 5:22-23 (NLT)
Jesus knew what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you question this in your hearts? Is it easier to say ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up and walk’?

Luke 5:24 (NLT)
So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!”

Luke 5:25 (NLT)
And immediately, as everyone watched, the man jumped up, picked up his mat, and went home praising God.

Luke 5:20 (NLT)
Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the man, “Young man, your sins are forgiven.” You’ll never reach the person on the mat in your story, until you see yourself as the person on the mat in this story.

John 1:29 (ESV)
“Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world...”

Jesus is the hero. Jesus is the hero.

All we need to be is a friend.

Passed by... Picked up...

Luke 5:26 (NLT)
And everyone was gripped with great wonder and awe, and they praised God, exclaiming, “We have seen amazing things today!”
