Words of Encouragement - Russ Isom
In the 1950’s we called elementary school “grade school.” Mine was a three-room building, located two miles by bike, from our farm a few miles north of Albany. Mrs. Persis Nygren, my teacher for six of the eight grades, graduated twelve of us from the eighth grade. Simpler days!
Judy and I live across the street from an elementary school. September brings children with new clothes and backpacks, full of energy and hope. Their learning opportunities include unprecedented technology, 24/7 access to news and social media, an overwhelming amount of information. Some students face potential threats, predicaments beyond imagination. Our hearts go out to them and staff who work with them. How can their curiosity and eagerness be funneled into good choices and helpful actions toward others?
In Ephesians 4:29 we read these words: “Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.”
Hope City encourages prayer walks around schools near our homes, as well as near Hope City. We ask God for peace and protection to cover students and staff, as well as each family that is home schooling. Our collective mindfulness over their needs may represent Jesus to them. Our appreciation of every student, staff person, and family, can bring honor to God.
