A note from Russ Isom

Sacrificial Generosity is one of Hope City’s core values! Want to know how your sacrificial generosity serves folks in our community who are down on their luck…perhaps a neighbor down the street, or someone who has attended Hope City? Monthly, sometimes daily, the requests come for assistance. Circumstances may vary, like help with rent money, or a gift card for groceries and other basic needs. In the past two weeks, Hope City has enabled two single moms whose electricity had been shut off, to have their power restored. A percentage of the funds given to Hope City go to provide benevolence in our community.

Many Bible passages encourage this benevolence. Here are just a few of them:

• 1 John 3:17-18. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

• James 2:14-17. What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

• Acts 20:35. Jesus said it well, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

Thank you for being a conduit of God’s love and grace through your sacrificial generosity. Hope City is delighted to be able to meet some of these needs in our community. We could not do it with you!
