Luke: Seek the Kingdom - Dayne Scanlon

-Pursue it

-Live in it

-Expand it

When Jesus talks about the Kingdom of God, He’s talking about:

  • Making God King
  • What God wants for this world
  • And all that God promises us in the next

Luke 12:29 (NIV)
And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it.

ζητέω (zēteo)- “to Search out, desire, require, demand.”

Luke 12:30 (NIV)
For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them.

Luke 12:31 (NIV)
But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

How do we seek the Kingdom of God?
1.) Call out competing Kingdoms
2.) Practice Sacrificial Generosity

Luke 12:32-34 (NIV)
“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

How do we seek the Kingdom of God?

1.) Call out competing kingdoms
2.) Practice Sacrificial Generosity
3.) Ground yourself daily in where you want to go

Prayer of St. Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
